How we research

We are a research desk, not a testing lab, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

• We do not publish hands-on reviews of products we have not used. No invented testing periods, no fabricated first-person experience.
• Every price, specification, warranty term and return window is taken from the manufacturer's own site, with the date we checked it shown on the page.
• Health claims are checked against peer-reviewed research, not marketing copy. Where the evidence is weak or contradicts the claim, we say so — that is the entire purpose of The Evidence.
• Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we write "not published" rather than estimating.
• We avoid sources with a commercial interest in the answer. Running-cost figures published by companies selling chillers, for example, are not used.
